Overview
Did you know Dr. Alex Litvinchuk was born and raised in the Ukraine? Join us as he tells of his experience as he lived through the aftermath of the world's largest nuclear disaster - Chernobyl (1986). The infamous nuclear accident devastated the lives of millions of people in Western Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The Chernobyl catastrophe released one hundred times more radiation than the atom bombs dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The effects of Chernobyl touched millions of people and thousands still endure very visible and painful effects. Officially, in Ukraine alone numbers 2.3 million people qualified as "having suffered from the catastrophe."
Portions of a special documentary, filmed on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the disaster, will be shown. Sasha, as Dr. Litvinchuk is known to friends, plays an important role in the film. The fallout from Chernobyl also affected TcSUH colleague Jarek Wosik, who was at the time in Poland.
