Biography
Prof. Stanger is professor emeritus in the Schulich Department of Chemistry at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. He received the D. Sc. from Technion, with Professor Y. Apeloig in 1985, and was the Chaim Weizmann Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley from 1986 to 1988 with Professor K. Peter C. Vollhardt. He served in several university positions at Technion and held the rank of Full Professor from 2020 to present. He received the Schulich Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009 and in 2020. He held visiting professorships at Free University, Berlin, from 2002 to 2003, and Boston College, from 2010 to 2011. Prof. Stanger’s research interests include organic and organometallic chemistry, the interplay between strain and aromaticity, computational organic and organometallic chemistry (mainly ab initio and DFT calculations), and physical organic and physical organometallic chemistry. His work includes the development of NICS-based methods for quantitative assessment of diatropic and paratropic ring current and aromaticity, and application of these methods for investigation of aromaticity-related issues.
